Chasing the Championship
While attending graduate school at Ohio University, I spent each week capturing Friday Night Lights in Southeast Ohio for the Chillicothe Gazette. Though I covered eight teams over the two seasons, I spent several games with the Chillicothe Cavalier Football Team, who had won the state’s first FAC championship. This is the story of their second pursuit of the coveted title.

What began as a simple collection of pumpkins in Ric Griffith's yard in Kenova, West Virginia, has blossomed into a beloved regional phenomenon. Each year at the end of October, The Pumpkin House comes to life with a collection of 3,000 carved gourds and a festive pumpkin orchestra.
